Solyanka with sauerkraut and chicken

Solyanka is a dish very conducive to improvisation. Sometimes the composition of a dish is determined by the contents of the refrigerator - such is an unpretentious universal dish. We suggest preparing this recipe on the basis of chicken and sauerkraut - it turns out hearty, aromatic and very tasty.

We wash the chicken thighs, cut off the excess skin. Cut off the fillet from the bones, cut it together with the skin into small pieces. In a frying pan, heat the vegetable oil until hot and lay out the chicken pieces.

Fry the chicken over high heat for five to seven minutes, stirring, until a light crust appears.

Cut the onions into small pieces and pour into the pan to the chicken. Stir and continue to fry over high heat without a lid for another five to seven minutes, until the onion becomes soft.

Three carrots on a coarse grater and put in a pan with chicken and onions. Reduce the fire to medium, mix everything together, close the lid and cook until the carrots are soft.

Preparing sauerkraut. We squeeze it well from the brine with our hands. If the pieces of cabbage are too large, then cut it into smaller pieces. Place the cabbage in a skillet with chicken and vegetables.

Next, put paprika, tomato paste, salt to taste, black ground pepper.

Mix everything together, add bay leaves, granulated sugar and chopped dill. Pour in seven to eight tablespoons of water or cabbage brine. Close with a lid and simmer over low heat for an hour.

By the end of stewing, the cabbage should become soft, and the liquid should evaporate. During stewing, do not forget to stir the mass. If necessary, pour more water or brine.

We serve the ready-made hodgepodge hot or warm. We decorate the dish with fresh herbs, in addition, you can serve fresh bread, boiled potatoes. Such a hodgepodge can be both the main dish and serve as a side dish.
